Bowmore 12 Year Sherry Oak Single Malt Scotch is the premium core range expression from one of Islay’s oldest distilleries — Bowmore in Loch Indaal, founded in 1779, presenting 12 years of moderately peated Islay single malt maturation with a strong Oloroso sherry cask influence producing the combination of peat smoke and sherry dried fruit that is Bowmore’s distinctive signature.

Bowmore is moderately peated — sitting between the lightly coastal Bunnahabhain and the heavily peated southern Kildalton distilleries. At 12 years in sherry casks the peat smoke and the rich, dried fruit and spice of Oloroso sherry have begun to integrate, producing the characteristic Bowmore combination that distinguishes it from both pure sherry cask expressions and pure bourbon cask peated malts. Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Sherry Oak 12 Year compare to the standard Bowmore 12 Year?

Bowmore produces both a standard 12 Year and this Sherry Oak 12 Year — the Sherry Oak version uses more sherry cask influence to produce a noticeably richer, darker, and more fruit-forward profile than the standard 12 Year’s more balanced bourbon and sherry combination.

Is Bowmore 12 Year Sherry Oak heavily peated?

Moderately peated — Bowmore sits in the middle of the Islay peat spectrum. Less intense than Ardbeg or Laphroaig, with the sherry cask adding richness that further softens the smoke perception relative to heavily peated bourbon-cask expressions.
